The grid code setting, also called the country data set, country code or grid profile, tells the inverter which country's or region's grid rules to follow. It sets up the inverter's control system to match the local grid voltage, frequency and basic grid configuration. Choose it based on the grid code of the installation country or region and on how the inverter is used. If you are unsure which one applies, ask the local utility. The selection loads protection limits and other settings that depend on it, such as the reactive power reference, frequency derating and ride-through options. In North America, the grid code is usually an IEEE 1547 profile, for example IEEE 1547 480V or IEEE1547-2018. On SMA inverters you set it with the Set country standard parameter under Grid monitoring. This parameter can be protected by SMA Grid Guard. Choosing the wrong grid type can disturb the PV system and cause problems with the grid operator, so check this setting at commissioning.

c1 drafted · lead Grid code

The setting loads the requirements of the local grid code into the inverter.

c2 drafted · lead IEEE 1547 proposed

SolarEdge: choosing the general USA country code for the grid configuration sets typical IEEE 1547 settings.

c3 drafted · lead IEEE 1547 proposed

Scope: products Delta M60U/M80U three-phase string inverter proposed, Delta M36U/M42U three-phase string inverter proposed

Delta string inverters in North America use the IEEE 1547 480V grid code setting.

review note: support check: partial - Passage says in NA the setting is IEEE 1547 480V, but doesn't name Delta products or M60U/M36U models in the text.

c4 drafted · lead IEEE 1547-2018 proposed

Scope: products Solis S6-GU(250-350)K-EHV-US; regions United States proposed, Canada proposed

For US and Canadian installations, select the IEEE1547-2018 grid code.

c5 drafted · lead VDE-AR-N 4105:2018 proposed

Scope: regions Germany proposed

Example grid code entry for Germany, which must be entered and then confirmed.

c6 drafted · lead Set country standard proposed

SMA parameter under Grid monitoring that selects the country data set.

c7 drafted · lead Grid Guard code holder

Scope: products Sunny Island 4.4M / 6.0H / 8.0H

The country standard parameter is protected by SMA Grid Guard.

review note: support check: partial - Row says Country/Set country standard is protected by SMA Grid Guard, but doesn't mention Sunny Island product scope.

c8 drafted · lead SMA LCS-Tool

The LCS-Tool is used to select the country and grid code.

review note: support check: partial - Figure caption shows LCS-Tool for selecting country and grid code, but only as a figure caption.

c9 drafted · lead Incorrect or unset grid code

Scope: products Sunny Boy Smart Energy US-50

A wrong grid type selection can disturb the PV system and cause problems with the grid operator.

c10 drafted · lead Reactive power

The reference size for the reactive power setting is normally already set by the country data set.

c11 drafted · lead Low-voltage ride-through

Scope: products Sungrow SG60KU-M proposed

Choosing a medium-voltage grid code lets you enable or disable LVRT.

review note: support check: partial - Passage supports MV grid code enabling/disabling LVRT, but doesn't name the SG60KU-M product.

c12 drafted · lead Frequency-Watt

The advanced grid code settings include frequency derating, which reduces output during over-frequency.

c13 drafted · lead Export limitation

Scope: products Enphase IQ8 Commercial Microinverters proposed

The grid profile carries an export limit setting.

review note: support check: partial - Only a figure caption mentions a grid profile export limit setting; no product scope or detail.
