Proper installation is a preventive action: careful handling and correct work during construction to avoid damage that later leads to cell cracks, connector defects, junction box failures and metallization corrosion. To prevent cell cracks, avoid mechanical stress on modules during transport and installation, since packaging, transport and installation are major sources of cracking after production. For DC connectors and cables, keep parts protected from humidity during installation, use the right crimping tools, have trained staff do the work, and make sure connector types are compatible. To reduce junction box failures, use qualified installers, check string polarity, avoid unauthorized rework of cables and connectors, and fit suitable protection devices against electrical overstress. Installation practices that limit moisture exposure also help prevent water ingress and severe metallization corrosion; avoid walking on modules and drilling holes in the wrong places, because both can cause damage. Good installation cannot undo existing defects: cracks from production can still grow under later stresses, and a junction box that has failed should be dealt with by replacing the module, because repairing it can start new fires.
