Fault localization means tracing a suspected wiring fault to its location. For cable defects, it is done on circuits that have been isolated. It is listed as a way to detect cable defects, together with visual inspection, insulation-resistance testing, thermal inspection and string current comparison. When checking a PV system for ground faults, measure the voltage first. If that does not give clear enough evidence, an insulation resistance measurement gives more exact results. Fault localization is listed as a typical use of high-accuracy (Class A) monitoring. After a cable repair, check that the insulation is intact.
