Cable management, also called wire management, means routing, securing and protecting the cables in a PV system, including module, string and main DC cables. Cables that are routed and secured properly make commissioning and troubleshooting easier. Good cable management also protects cables from bad weather and from abrasion on sharp edges of the support structure. Use listed cable ties or wire management devices for wiring under the modules and along rows, and use approved listed raceways for wiring that crosses between rows. Large wire bundles should run in listed raceways, routed so firefighters are not exposed to them where they enter and leave. Plastic wire ties and grommets can break or pinch wires, and they degrade from sunlight, wind, the weight of ice and chewing rodents, so wire management needs regular maintenance. Some programs ask for photos of the wire management under the array and where it enters conduit or junction boxes, plus a photo of the devices used, such as clips or UV-rated zip ties.
