root-cause analysis

Root cause investigation means working out why a failure happened, so the repair deals with the cause and not only the damaged part. For glass breakage, replace modules where there is a safety or insulation risk, then look into likely causes such as clamp stress, hail, handling or thermal damage. For severe metallization corrosion, replace badly corroded modules and find out how water is getting in, so that later module designs and installation practice limit moisture exposure. A typical workflow starts with SCADA and controller data, compares morning, noon and afternoon windows, and then confirms with drone imagery, field angle measurements and a hardware inspection. Operators need monitoring data plus either experienced staff who know the plant or software that can flag anomalies and suggest fixes. Finding the true cause before sending out service crews keeps maintenance costs down. One limit is that some normal designs can look like defects; for example, a tracker built to follow the terrain is not twisted. After a repair, check the result with a repeat angle survey and compare normalized power against unaffected rows.
