Power quality analyzer
A power quality analyzer is a multi-function test instrument for diagnosing problems in electrical systems. Besides basic multimeter functions, it adds data acquisition and oscilloscope functions for looking at waveforms. Over time it can record grid conditions such as voltage sags and surges, power factor, phase angles and harmonics. It can also measure AC ripple current on DC circuits, which may matter when sizing conductors and choosing overcurrent protective devices. For verifying inverter protective functions, Enphase calls high-accuracy power measurement equipment the most deterministic and accurate method. It also needs the largest investment in equipment, and if none is on hand a power quality analyzer can be rented. The exact test steps depend on which instrument is used. SMA plant documentation names the Janitza UMG 604-PRO as a power analyzer.
<!-- review notes
- sentence 4: support check: partial - Most deterministic, largest capital investment and renting a power quality analyzer are stated, but the passage doesn't say 'accurate' as 'most' (says extremely accurate) and nothing attributes it to Enphase or to inverter protective functions explicitly.
- sentence 5: support check: partial - Procedures varying by equipment is stated and UMG 604-PRO is a power analyzer, but nothing links it to SMA plant documentation. -->
