Rubber insulating gloves are hand protection worn with leather protectors where touching exposed energized conductors or circuit parts could shock the worker. Rubber insulating sleeves are added where the arm is also at risk. The gloves must be rated for the voltage they will be exposed to. The rubber gloves are specified by ASTM D120, and the leather protectors by ASTM F696. Inspect the gloves for damage and give them an air test before each day's use. Do the same right after any incident that may have damaged them. The gloves must be electrically tested before first issue and every 6 months after that. New gloves cannot go into service unless they were electrically tested within the previous 12 months.
