Fiber optic link
A fiber optic link is a physical transport that carries communication data as light over optical fibers rather than over copper wire. The Accuenergy AXM-WEB2-FOLC expansion module has one fiber optic LC interface and one Ethernet port, and it connects the meter to a fiber optic network. Serial links can be moved onto fiber with SEL accessories: the SEL-2829/2830/2831 transceivers send two-way serial data over two fibers, and the SEL-9220 turns an EIA-485 relay port into a point-to-point fiber port.
<!-- review notes
- sentence 1: support check: partial - Passages show fiber used instead of wire for data transfer, but don't explicitly define a fiber optic link as carrying data as light over optical fibers.
- sentence 2: support check: partial - One LC fiber interface, one Ethernet port and connection to a fiber optic network are stated, but passages say nothing about it being an expansion module or connecting 'the meter' (Accuenergy).
- sentence 1: review: partial - The SEL passage supports using optical fibers instead of wire to carry data, but no passage says the data travels as light or that the wire it replaces is copper. -->
