SMA Smart Connected is a free SMA service that monitors the inverter or other product through Sunny Portal. When a fault or product event happens, the operator or owner and the installer get an automatic notice, and SMA provides a fault diagnosis if service is needed. You turn it on while registering the product in Sunny Portal. The product has to stay connected to Sunny Portal at all times, and the operator and installer contact details stored there must be kept current. It only works in Sunny Portal if the inverters support the feature. The service covers SMA products in grid-tie systems in a list of countries that includes the United States, Canada, Australia and much of Europe. Islands, overseas territories and countries not on the list are excluded. During the SMA factory warranty, the service runs for the warranty period. If an extended warranty was bought, it runs for that period, as long as nobody turns it off. Once active, it keeps running until the customer turns it off in Sunny Portal, which counts as cancelling. SMA may cancel it in writing at the end of a calendar year with three months notice.
