IEC
The IEC is a global standards organization that prepares and publishes International Standards for electrical, electronic and related technologies. Its members are national electrotechnical committees. Besides International Standards it publishes Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications and Guides, and technical committees do the drafting. The IEC works closely with ISO under an agreement between the two organizations. For PV, IEC technical committee 82 (Solar photovoltaic energy systems) prepared IEC 62446-1 on testing, documentation and maintenance of PV systems. Its first edition replaced IEC 62446 from 2009. The IEC does not certify products itself. Independent certification bodies do conformity assessment. Field documents also cite other IEC standards, such as the IEC 61215 module design qualification test and the IEC 61850 communication standard used in meters. The IEC has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
<!-- review notes
- sentence 6: support check: partial - u12 cites IEC 61215 as a design qualification and type approval test, but u13 only mentions IEC 61850-10 conformance testing and says nothing about meter communication use. -->
