Glass crack resealing
Glass crack resealing means sealing small cracks in a module's glass instead of replacing the whole module. It is a possible response to glass breakage. The source supports resealing only for minor cracks and says it may help only for a limited time, not as a permanent fix. Modules with broken glass should normally be replaced, especially when there is a safety or insulation risk. Broken module glass is treated as a catastrophic failure because it compromises the module's mechanical and electrical safety. Loss of insulation can be the first fault the inverter reports. Cracked glass can let in moisture and cause insulation faults that may stop the whole plant. Internal arcing and fire are possible later failures. Find cracks before deciding on a repair, using visual inspection, infrared imaging and monitoring data. On thin glass/glass modules, check the rear side, because cracking often starts on the rear glass. Resealing does not remove the cause, so also investigate what broke the glass, such as clamp stress, hail, handling or thermal damage.
<!-- review notes
- sentence 1: support check: partial - Passage says resealing may help temporarily for minor cracks, but doesn't define it as sealing cracks instead of replacing the module (though implied).
- sentence 6: support check: partial - Detection methods and rear-side inspection are stated, but the 'find cracks before deciding on repair' ordering is not stated and the rear-side point is for thin glass visual inspection rather than a stated repair workflow.
- sentence 7: support check: partial - Investigating root causes (clamp stress, hail, handling, thermal damage) is stated, but the claim that resealing does not remove the cause is not stated in the passages. -->
