NABCEP offers professional certifications as a PV Installation Professional, a PV Technical Sales Professional or a Solar Heating Installer. The program is run by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. The Technical Sales credential is meant for people who market PV installations and develop customers for them. To sit the exam, candidates must meet the education, training and responsible-role installation experience requirements set out in the NABCEP Certification Handbook, which also explains how to apply. The PV Installation Professional exam is built on a Job Task Analysis that covers the job from checking the system design through installation, commissioning and maintenance. The NABCEP resource guide is one study reference, but exam questions also draw on other primary references, especially the National Electrical Code. Continuing education credits toward certification or recertification can be earned at NABCEP's annual conference. Some O&M guidance asks for NABCEP PV Installer Certification plus 2 to 5 years of experience for diagnostic inspection work.
