ASTM International
ASTM International, formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials, is a US-based standards developing organization that publishes consensus standards. Its solar standards concentrate on test procedures for PV components and complete PV systems, and most PV work runs through Subcommittee E44.09 on Photovoltaic Electric Power Conversion. Standards relevant to O&M include E772 terminology for solar energy conversion, E2047 for wet insulation integrity testing of PV arrays, and E2908 guidance on fire prevention for PV modules and systems. ASTM E2848 covers reporting the performance of non-concentrator PV systems. ASTM E2939 sets reporting conditions and expected capacity. Used together, they compare measured output with modeled output for plant acceptance and for tracking performance over time. ASTM also developed a draft practice, WK43549 (ICOMP), covering installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of commercial PV plants. The ASTM G173-03 reference solar spectrum is often used to assess how sunlight affects modules and other plant components. Site spectra can differ from it, for example in the Atacama Desert. ASTM and IEC have worked directly with NREL and Sandia National Laboratories on developing PV O&M standards.
<!-- review notes
- sentence 5: support check: partial - WK43549 ICOMP is described as in development covering installation, commissioning, O&M of commercial PV, but 'draft practice' by ASTM is fine; the passages say it is in development, so mostly supported, though 'developed a draft' is slightly beyond.
- sentence 1: review: partial - The passages give the former name and call ASTM a US standards organization and SDO, but neither cited passage says it publishes consensus standards. -->
