Checking the seals, Sealing the Openings

An enclosure sealing check confirms that an inverter or equipment cabinet still keeps out water and dust as its enclosure rating requires, for example NEMA Type 4X on the UNO-DM-PLUS inverters. It applies after installation or service work and during routine maintenance, because water getting into the enclosure can cause equipment failure and unsafe conditions. Check that every cable gland fully seals its opening, that unused openings are closed with filler plugs, and that all conduit entries are sealed and use weather-tight fittings. When you refit covers, follow the specified screw sequence and tightening torque so the enclosure stays sealed. Inspect the door and panel seals for damage and contact the manufacturer if any are damaged. Applying talcum, petroleum jelly or wax to the seals helps prevent frost damage. If the inside of the enclosure is moist or dirty, dry or clean it after disconnecting all voltage sources. Limits: opening an enclosure in freezing weather or in rain, high humidity or wind can damage the seals or let moisture and debris in. Drilling extra holes, such as weep holes, voids the warranty. Sealants must be compatible with the site's materials, because some foams can degrade conductor insulation and PVC conduit.
