Also known as
SMA RS485 Module, SMA 485 Module, communication component, LinkIt module

The communication module is a plug-in interface that lets the inverter exchange data with outside devices. On SMA inverters, the RS485 module provides wired RS485 communication with SMA communication products, and it can be added later as a retrofit. On SB US-40 and US-41 inverters, the RS485 module links the inverter to the energy meter of the SMA Revenue Grade Meter Kit. It is only used when no SMA Cellular Modem Kit is installed. Field wiring to the communication interface terminals must use Class 1 wiring methods. SMA STP inverters have two module slots on the communication assembly, and you may not fit two identical modules. SMA event 27301, Update communication, means the inverter is updating its communication component, and no action is needed. On CPS inverters, a communication module such as the LinkIt module is needed for commissioning. It mounts on the communication port behind a rotating cover and is held by two screws tightened to keep the seal watertight. Once on-site setup is done, remove the CPS module, store it for later use, and close the DB9 connector cover again. The module has an operating temperature limit of -4°F (-20°C).
