Whole-home backup is a storage topology that keeps the entire property powered during a grid outage, rather than only a separate panel of selected circuits. In the Solis design it is built from the hybrid inverter's EPS (backup) output combined with an automatic transfer switch (ATS) that moves the home between sources. Its main advantage is that there is no split between essential and non-essential circuits, which gives the customer a better experience during interruptions. Use it only when full-property backup is actually required, the battery system is sized for it, automatic source transfer is wanted, and load management has been considered. Whole-home backup layouts also appear in SolarEdge Home Hub material as a combined main panel full backup, in Generac PWRcell and PWRmanager documentation, and in Enphase CT installation guidance.
